Oddly, "circle feeds" are chronological. So if you borrow a page from LJ and use a "Default View" circle, you can keep a chrono feed. Of course, you still have to click a few times to select it each time you load G+.
Can't even find circle feeds on mobile anymore...
On iOS, if you tap on the menu icon in the upper left, then on People, you'll see all your circles. Tap on the one you want and there it is. Note: I figured this out by accident/brute forcing the issue. >_<
On Android you have to go into the Settings menu and re-enable Circle Streams (they're off by default).
