Solar Eclipse Ravenna – Total Solar Eclipse 2017 in Ravenna Nebraska

Hey!

Have you ever wanted to see a total eclipse of the sun?

Have you ever wanted to meet my folks?

Monday, August 21st, 2017 there will be a total eclipse that will be visible in the US. And my hometown of Ravenna, Nebraska will be right under the line of totality so you'll see the sun be completely swallowed up by the moon.

I'm going home to watch it and my folks are offering crash space to anyone coming along with me. My folks live just outside of town and should have an excellent view of the proceedings without the crowds and general hubbub of the viewing sites in town. If you don't want to go for just the eclipse, I can help plan out a larger vacation with other places to visit and things to do -- I'm thinking about going to the Black Hills and/or the Rockies.

It's likely that folks should get their plane tickets sooner rather than later and I'd like to have a decent headcount well in advance. So I'm making this general announcement that if this sounds like something you'd be interested in, get in touch with me before Jan. 30th.

  1. It's a fascinating idea but I won't be able to plan anything summer-ish until at least April when we get the kids' camp schedules started.

  2. +DrWex If you're still interested in April, let me know. It's just my expectation is that the plane tickets will get pricey/limited sooner rather than later so I hope to save people some (more) money.

  4. I'm interested! I'd probably have a 5-year-old in tow, though. How does that jive with your/your parents' thinking?

  7. Leah Bloom Absolutely. I'll keep making periodic reminders until about Jan. 30th and then I'll set up a planning meeting for February and we'll go from there. In the meantime, if you have any questions/comments/concerns you can email me. (This goes for anyone above who's expressed an interest)

  9. Leah Bloom Cool! I honestly don't know how tight tickets will get. I was planning to get them in February after the planning meeting. If other people are going we might coordinate flights since people might be able to carpool or do other things in concert.

  11. Do you usually fly into Omaha and drive to Ravenna?

  12. Leah Bloom Yeah. Technically, there are airports closer to my home, but they're all tiny and getting flights there will be so roundabout it'll be faster to drive. Plus, most of them are only serviced by puddle jumpers I can't fit into.
