Title

Attention LARP-Friends!

Surely within my social circles I/we know someone with a huge stockpile of good-looking boffer weapons that I might be able to make use of for a theatre production I'm directing this Fall. The show is about D&D and thus there's a lot of heroes and monsters who need some weapons. They can be a little cartoon-y, fantasy-esque but should look more like weapons than foam-covered pvc pipes.

If you, or someone you know might be able to help out, please get in touch with me. Thanks.

  1. Most "boffers" are foam and don't look like weapons (deliberately). There are some costume swords and such - my kids have a couple - but they're generally not boffers. How many costume weapons do you need?

  2. DrWex I've seen some pretty good-looking ones in the past. Usually maces/axes/hammers since a block of foam can easily pass for a block of metal. There have also been some pretty nice sword-shaped ones as well.

I'll probably need about 1-2 dozen weapons of various flavors.

  3. Blue Gargantua the ones that look more realistic are probably latex or plastidip which are far more expensive than the average boffer - though today's standard are still pipe foam but are more likely to be non duct tape blades and some kind of shaped hard cell or injection foam molded hilts and cross guards and not PVC core. B3 Imagination Studios work is a good view of the standard boffer.

For weapons of that number you're looking for I'd recommend contacting a game that's running and see if they'd let you borrow from their monster camp. Only way to get them from one source really, unless you know a former game owner who still has their monster camp packed up someplace.

    James Marston Rob Ciccolini ?

  4. Oif, sorry - all of my gear long ago rotted and was disposed of. NE IFGS is mostly defunct - I think the closest chapter that would have a stock like that is Georgia right now. Not too helpful. How many runs do the 'weapons' need to last through? If not too many, you could likely build some temporary, fairly nice looking 'one off' items that could last for the production run.

  5. Hey, I just remembered I have a wooden sword and metal sword in the basement, leftover from martial arts tournament days. You can have them if they suit, but maybe also check out martial arts supply outlets?
